1. Gymnastics Gone Wrong (Candice Hooper - Final Destination 5)

Candice's (Ellen Wroe) gymnastics accident in Final Destination 5 is easily the best-directed and most smartly constructed death scene in the entire series, making expert use of red herrings and misdirection to keep audiences on their toes.

We know that Candice's time is numbered, but numerous potentially life-ending objects - errant nails, leaking water, loose screws - are focused on, only for most of them to be relatively benign.

In the end, Candice dies when a second gymnast injures her foot on the aforementioned nail, knocking powder into a nearby fan, which is catapulted into Candice's face, blinding her and causing her to fall off the high-beam.

Her body basically snaps in half upon impact, her legs bent over her head in a shockingly brutal feat of still-impressive visual effects. It's not remotely realistic, but a fantastic fusion of intelligent filmmaking and persuasive effects.
