Ranking Every James Bond Film - From Worst To Best

17. The Man With The Golden Gun

Christopher Lee's spectacular Francisco Scaramanga - one of the greatest of all Bond villains - definitely saves The Man With The Golden Gun a few places on this list, the great actor's turn as the deadly assassin the obvious highlight in a film crying out for the them. Lee aside, Golden Gun serves as yet another example of the Moore-era Bonds suffering from stale ideas and tired tropes, the nadir here coming with yet another appearance from Clifton James' Sheriff J W Pepper, the redneck cop we first saw in Live and Let Die. He's mildly funny in his first appearance, but for the producers to bring him back suggests a serious lack of understanding in regard to what Bond fans wanted. Elsewhere, Britt Eckland makes for a charming, if slightly annoying Bond girl, and there's a corkscrew car flip - completed in one take and said to be the first ever stunt based on computer modelling - that ranks with the best car stunts ever put on film.
