Ranking EVERY James Bond Henchman From Worst To Best
16. Mr Stamper (Tomorrow Never Dies, 1997)
He’s big, he’s blonde, he’s German; Mr Stamper is impervious to pain and desires nothing more than to torture Bond as slowly as possible.
Though he’s approximately the 700th clone of the golden-haired Red Grant to appear in the James Bond franchise, Mr Stamper gets a meaty role in the plot to sink his teeth into. As Elliot Carver’s right-hand man, Stamper is tasked with duties ranging from routine protection of person to carrying out the executive operations of Carver’s nefarious news network.
That’s not running to and from grabbing coffees for deadline-dodging journos, by the way. With Carver seeking to orchestrate world wars for the benefit of his media empire, Stamper is responsible for overseeing the sinking of British ships and the murder of their sailors - using Chinese bullets.
It’s clear, then, that Carver trusts him with a great deal of responsibility - and Mr Stamper repays this faith with steadfast loyalty. When Bond foils the villainous scheme as he always does by the film’s end, Stamper doesn’t abandon ship. Instead, he's touchingly dedicated to avenging his fallen master.
Short of the ability to actually kill 007, what more can a Bond villain ask from his subordinates?
