Ranking Every James Bond Opening Scene From Worst To Best

9. Quantum Of Solace

Taking place just two hours after its predecessor, Quantum of Solace wastes no time at all as it flies out of the starting gate with an electrifying car chase.

Set in beautiful Siena Italy, this opening traces Bond's efforts to shake Quantum agents that are hot on his tail. The sequence begins without any hesitation as James Bond races his gorgeous Aston Martin through a tight highway tunnel, narrowly maneuvering both his pursuers as well as surrounding vehicles the entire time.

The action provided by this close-knit location is tense and engrossing, and the tunnel could have easily served as the only location for this opening. However, the chase then goes off road and becomes even more entertaining.

Police follow Bond and his pursuers onto off road construction, and these two developments make the scene even more rampant and unpredictable. The police cars complicate the action and ultimately add to the chaos and spectacle of the sequence, while the fast-paced navigation of the construction provides unwavering tension.

This opening also has an immensely satisfying conclusion; after escaping his nefarious pursuers, 007 opens the trunk of his Aston Martin to reveal that Mr. White was inside it the entire time. With its unrelenting suspense, captivating direction and coordination, and rewarding payoff, Quantum of Solace has the ninth best opening scene in Bond history.
