Ranking Every Jim Carrey Movie Worst To Best
19. A Christmas Carol (2009)
This, seemingly the umpteenth cinematic take on Charles Dickens' festive opus, is a tricky one to rank in the context of Carrey's filmography.
On one hand it is an exemplary showcase for Carrey's talents, playing not only Ebeneezer Scrooge but also all three spirits which haunt him, yet this is at all times pitted against Robert Zemeckis' half-impressive, half-terrifying motion capture technology.
A Christmas Carol is all the more curious a film considering it released the same year as the infinitely more impressive Avatar.
Zemeckis deserves credit for leaning into the darker aspects of the story, and Carrey is excellent, but the animation hasn't aged all that well.
18. Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)
Though the world is still waiting for the first great video game movie, last year's Sonic the Hedgehog was certainly a step in the right direction, offering up a reverent, spirited, energetic love letter to one of the medium's all-time icons.
But the film's broadly positive reviews were credited as much to Jim Carrey's turn as the villainous Dr. Robotnik as the wider content of the film.
For many, Carrey's unabashedly zany turn as the iconic mad scientist felt like a long-awaited callback to the wackier roles of his heyday - a ripe opportunity to let loose with all the pent-up energy he's spend the last decade-ish suppressing.
Even beyond this, though, it's full of fun action, it's goofy as hell, loaded with fan service, and also kinda sweet. For a video game movie, it's positively miraculous.
