Ranking Every MCU Film From Worst To Best
11. Iron Man 2
It's not quite fatal, but Iron Man 2 takes everything that was good about Iron Man and scrumples it up into a little ball before casually tossing it out of the window.
Where the first is a funny, cocky portrait of Tony Stark's metamorphosis from short-sighted, arrogant tech-billionaire brat to legitimate hero, the second is about his difficulty to cope with it. That transition is too quick and unfounded in comparison to the explanation behind Iron Man 3's crisis of confidence and identity, but ironically it's the best part of the story. And that all comes down to Downey Jnr's stellar performance as Tony Stark.
When he puts the suit on, rather frustratingly, the whole thing descends into a vulgar toy story of threatless fights and zero stakes, with one dimensional villains who could have been so much more. In the end it just feels like the enthusiasm ran out about two thirds of the way through and the rest was phoned in.
