Ranking Every New James Bond Actor's Introductory Scene From Worst To Best

5. Daniel Craig - Double Kill (Casino Royale)

James Bond Goldeneye Opening
MGM

Daniel Craig took a lot of stick when he got was chosen to take over from Pierce Brosnan, mainly because, and this is 100% true, he had blond hair. With four films under his belt and the fifth one due to be released in October 2021, Craig brought a ruggedness and ruthlessness to the role that we hadn't seen in previous interpretations of Bond.

His introduction: In his opening scene for Casino Royale (shot entirely in black and white) the film cuts back and forth from a conversation Bond is having with a man, to a fight, he had with a thug in a bathroom. After Bond eventually drowns the thug in a sink, it cuts back to his conversation about killing two men to reach double-O status. Bond shoots the man in the room before the first kill flashback ends with him turning and shooting, showing us the origin of the famous bleeding eyeshot featured in every Bond film to date.

7/10 - This introduction wonderfully set up the ruthless new Bond that Daniel Craig would go on to portray but there was still questions as to whether or not he could be as charming as he was deadly.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
