Ranking EVERY Resident Evil Movie From Worst To Best
4. Resident Evil: Extinction
After the supremely underwhelming second instalment of Alice's story, the live-action film franchise took an extra year of development that would eventually lead to the series diverting from the video game canon of events.
Racoon City was a smoking nuclear hole in the ground, and wasn't going to ship off Milla Jovovich to rural Spain for the events of Resident Evil 4. Instead, Execution became Mad Max meets Day of the Dead, and for the most part it's quite solid.*
The series finally had an intriguing villain in the form of Dr Issacs, played by Iain Glen. Not many other actors could ground a mad scientist constantly attempts to replicate the success of Project Alice and keep it from becoming over the top cheesy.
Execution even has a relatable cast of survivors to keep it rooted as each of them has personality traits and leave you believing they might make it. Even the cowboy hat wearing redneck when at times.
Unlike in previous and subsequent future entries, the action set pieces are fast-paced and fluid rather than laughably all over the place and honestly hard to follow in time. Even T-Virus infected crows being engulfed by mind-controlled flames is entertaining here. This was a step in the right direction after Apocalypse, but there would be more bumps in the road for the film franchise.
