Ranking: Every Tim Burton Movie From Worst To Best

3. Batman Returns (1992)

Alice In Wonderland Johnny Depp Frankenweenie
Warner Bros. Pictures

Though debate has literally raged for decades about which of Burton's Batman movies is better, Returns is a more muscular, weird and sexy movie in every way, elevated hugely by Michelle Pfeiffer and Danny DeVito's turns as Catwoman and The Penguin respectively.

Despite its incredibly dark tone and narrative (believed to be responsible for its box office under-performance), Burton still has room for plenty of unabashed silliness (the rocket penguins and The Penguin's rubber ducky boat), while never forgetting to play-up the grotesquery of its villain nor the sexiness of its femme fatale.

It still blows that Batman kills people, but given the sheer audaciousness of the whole movie, it's fairly easy to forgive.

Best Moment: Catwoman gets Bats in a compromising position and licks his face. Sexy-weird all at once.
