Ranking: Every Tim Burton Movie From Worst To Best
4. Big Fish (2003)
One of Burton's most sweetly affecting films even though it underwhelmed at the box office, Big Fish isn't without its self-consciously quirky moments, but it tells a deeply emotional, universal tale about love, loss and storytelling itself that isn't easily shaken.
It's visually dazzling as expected, but there's an extremely potent beauty to the performances too, especially Albert Finney as the dying old man equivalent of Ewan McGregor's character.
Though its themes and overall message has arguably been outdone by Ang Lee's far more successful Life of Pi, it's easily one of the most underrated works in Burton's canon.
Best Moment: As Albert Finney soaks in the bathtub, his wife (Jessica Lange) joins him, clinging close to him and telling him, "I don't think I'll ever dry out."
