13. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny
RottenTomatoes Score: 13% (4.5/10) Box Office: The budget hasn't been disclosed, but the long-awaited sequel has grossed over $35 million in China and Hong Kong, in addition to being released in about a dozen IMAX cinemas in the U.S., and of course, being released simultaneously on Netflix. Even if it cost substantially more than the original's $17 million, there's no way it's a bust. Verdict: Where to begin with this one? We all wanted it to be good, but most of us knew it probably wouldn't be. Michelle Yeoh gives it her all and some of the fight choreography is solid enough, but the general acting, direction, visual effects and decision to shoot the movie in English all make it feel like an inferior, inbred younger cousin to Ang Lee's Oscar-winning classic. The worst thing that can be said about Sword Of Destiny (other than it having a title that sounds like a Tenacious D movie) is that it's so ridiculously forgettable. Outside of the action, it's pure, dull ennui.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
