Ranking January 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

9. Cake

RottenTomatoes Score: 49% (5.8 out of 10) Box Office: So far it's grossed barely over $1 million against a projected $7-10 million budget, though for Jennifer Aniston the reward will be the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe award nominations. While the movie itself may be dreadfully uneven, floating from earnest melodrama to some poorly-judged surreal elements, the real reason to see Cake is for a stellar performance from Aniston. Though it'd be easy to see her casting here as something of a stunt, remember that the actress has played in the dramatic arena before to considerable success (The Good Girl, anyone?), and this is merely a reminder of her skilled ability in doing so. It flirts with being too miserable for its own good, but it even gets a pretty decent performance out of Sam Worthington, and if that's not the sign of a good film, what is?
