RottenTomatoes Score: 88% (7.5 out of 10) Box Office: Even with a minuscule $4 million budget and the Oscar hype revolving around Julianne Moore's excellent performance, Still Alice has scooped just $715,000 at the box office. Sony Pictures Classics almost certainly won't mind too much when Moore (probably) wins the Oscar, though. While the movie's premise could easily have been another mopey disease movie in lesser hands, the success of Still Alice falls almost entirely at the feet of Julianne Moore, who imbues a tender sadness into a character stricken with early-onset Alzheimer's. Without deigning to exploitation, the movie does a fine job of depicting her inevitable decline, and especially the effect this has on her family. Though Moore has rightly earned the lioness' share of the praise, Kristen Stewart is also fantastic as her youngest daughter, and Alec Baldwin is perfectly-cast as her workaholic husband. Not a laugh-a-minute date movie by any means, but emotionally honest to the very end.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
