Ranking January 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

1. Selma

RottenTomatoes Score: 99% (8.7 out of 10) Box Office: An underwhelming number of Oscar nominations certainly didn't hurt this movie, which opened on a healthy 2200+ screens and has doubled its $20 million budget to date. Despite only scooping two Oscar nominations (for Best Picture and Best Original Song), Ava DuVernay's Martin Luther King biopic has proven itself to be one of the strongest movies on the awards circuit this year. Topped by a fantastic David Oyelowo performance alongside a superb supporting cast, this is without question the definitive cinematic look at its subject. It's all the more impressive considering that King's estate had already sold the "rights" to the man's speeches to DreamWorks, and so DuVernay was only allowed to paraphase the spirit of King's words. Still, it's easy to forget this in the final product, because the movie is so convincing in capturing the tension of the era and the conviction of the man. Which movies did you see in cinemas this past month? What did you love? What did you hate? Shout it out in the comments!
