Ranking January 2016's Movies From Worst To Best

12. Mojave

RottenTomatoes Score: 33% (4.9/10) Box Office: The budget hasn't been disclosed, but no matter how low it evidently is, Mojave originally rolled out on DirectTV before releasing in just 26 cinemas and on VOD, so there's nothing to see here. Verdict: The Departed screenwriter William Monaghan makes another attempt at directing after London Boulevard went nowhere, this time examining the showdown between a suicidal artist (Garrett Hedlund) and the smooth-talking, enigmatic man (Oscar Isaac) he meets in the Mojave desert. Though certainly tense and intriguing to a point, it's clear as day that the film was held back in order to take advantage of Isaac's casting in Star Wars (Mojave was filmed in late 2013). In fairness, Isaac is the easy highlight, but the convoluted dialogue and fairly airless unfolding of the plot make it a tough sell all the same.
