Ranking January 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
1. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
RottenTomatoes Score: 93% (8.5/10)
Box Office: Impressively made for just $12 million, the Best Picture hopeful has multiplied its price tag six-fold, making it by far director Martin McDonagh's most financially successful film to date.
Verdict: At once savagely funny and enormously depressing, Three Billboards is a far more mature film than its marketing suggests, with the witty quips often taking a backseat to the grimmer realities of its tortured characters.
Frances McDormand gives probably the best performance of the last 12 months as a mother desperately seeking justice for her murdered daughter, while Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell bring brilliant life to characters who in lesser hands could feel woefully one-dimensional.
There are debates to be had about the film's depiction of racism, but that feels very intentionally part of McDonagh's movie. Don't miss it.
