Ranking Jean-Claude Van Damme's Boss Fights

7. Universal Solider

Van Damme's Role: Luc Devereaux, a reanimated super-soldier who becomes sentient again thanks to a spunky news reporter. The pair are subsequently hunted down by the other super-soldiers to stop Devereaux from spilling some diabolical government secrets.

The Bad Guy: At one point in time Jean-Claude Van Damme vs. Dolph Lundgren was the biggest marquee matchup imaginable. Ivan Drago aka "The Russian" from Rocky 4 head-to-head with Ivan Kraschinsky aka "The Russian" from No Retreat, No Surrender. But in place of the stoic, ice-cold Dolph from Rocky, we're treated to a slightly weirder, much more menacing Dolph, who makes doofy faces and quips one-liners with all the reverence of a young Gary Busey.

The Fight in a Nutshell: Despite Lundgren's martial arts background, and the impressive moves he displayed a year earlier in Showdown in Little Tokyo, there's nary a hint of athleticism to be had here. Like a game of American football gone wrong, it's mostly two jacked-up dudes throwing haymakers and sloppily tackling each other into things in the middle of a rainstorm. Points for featuring the best impalement on this list, though.
