Ranking July 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

8. Magic Mike XXL

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 64% (5.8/10) Box Office: Made for a cheap $14.8 million, Magic Mike XXL has just crossed the $100 million mark worldwide, and while far away from the original's $167 million gross, makes it an easy commercial success (though it also makes the likelihood of a third film more ambiguous). The Verdict: Given that the original Magic Mike felt highly self-contained and didn't exactly leave much wiggle room for a sequel, it's fair to be skeptical of this one, especially with original director Steven Soderbergh not helming (though he has stayed on as cinematographer and editor). Surprisingly, XXL proves to be a charming follow-up in its own right, veering away from the oft-dark tone of the original and instead opting for bromantic dialogues, sexy stripping and a tone that's as light as whipped cream. Though Matthew McConaughey's nowhere to be seen this time, the film does just fine without him, and the stripping sequences that close the thing out are hilariously inventive and entertaining.
