Ranking July 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

16. The Legend Of Tarzan

Ghostbusters Jason Bourne Ice Age
Warner Bros.

RottenTomatoes Score: 36% (5.1/10)

Box Office: Tarzan opened above box office projections, though given its huge $180 million price tag, it recently passing the $300 million mark doesn't seem quite so impressive.

It reportedly needs to make $400 million to break even, and there's absolutely no guarantee of that as its momentum begins to slow down. It'll be a modest success at best.

Verdict: The writing has been on the wall about this one for a while, so it's not too surprising that this Tarzan reboot nobody asked for is aggressively mediocre from start to finish.

Though Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie are perfectly cast as Tarzan and Jane, and Samuel L. Jackson is a terrific scene-stealing sidekick, excessive flashbacks hurt the pacing, the CGI is hideous for such an expensive film, and it's trying to be too many things at once (namely a prequel and a sequel).

Not quite the Batman Begins-esque treatment Warner Bros. were hoping for, then.
