Ranking July 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

15. The Purge: Election Year

Ghostbusters Jason Bourne Ice Age
Universal Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 54% (5.3/10)

Box Office: In line with previous entries into the series, the third Purge film was made for a low cost and turned in a high profit, budgeted at just $10 million and about to close in on the $100 million mark worldwide.

With the current franchise high being The Purge: Anarchy's final $111.9 million total, it's entirely possible Election Year could barely topple it to become the most successful one yet. Either way, it ensures the franchise remains incredibly healthy moving forward.

Verdict: Nothing if not consistent, Election Year continues to expand the mythology in an intriguing way while serving up the savage violence and light political satire audiences expect.

Frank Grillo continues to be the most compelling element of these movies, even if his Punisher shtick feels a little more subdued this time. Still, it delivers what it says on the tin and sews some intriguing seeds for what comes next.
