Ranking July 2017's Movies From Worst To Best
3. War For The Planet Of The Apes
RottenTomatoes Score: 93% (8.1/10)
Box Office: The $150 million threequel was widely expected to do gangbusters at the box office following on from the massively successful previous film and driven by incredible reviews, but it has in fact fallen rather short of its predecessor's immense success, perhaps because of its downcast tone.
At present War is just crossing $200 million worldwide, and though it still has to open in the likes of France, Germany, South Korea and Japan, its final cume is going to be a pretty steep drop from what most analysts were expecting. And it couldn't happen to a better movie, sadly.
Verdict: Unquestionably one of the best second sequels in cinema history, War for the Planet of the Apes is a directing triumph for Matt Reeves, and gives Andy Serkis another fantastic opportunity to prove why his performance capture work merits Oscar consideration.
Brutal, action-packed, unexpectedly hilarious and urgently, emotionally resonant, War ends the trilogy on an impressive high.
