Box Office: Despite costing a ludicrously bloated $75 million, the belated musical sequel has effortlessly doubled its budget already. While it hasn't got a hope in hell of flying close to the first movie's $615.7 million final total, it'll do just fine regardless.

Verdict: An unexpected improvement over its predecessor, Mamma Mia 2 ramps up the silliness, makes the most of its enthusiastic ensemble and doubles down on the ludicrous song-and-dance routines audiences expect.

Meryl Streep's absence is a shame, for sure, but the film largely makes up for it with some canny additions to the line-up and an infectiously sweet tone.

If you liked the first one, it's hard to imagine you not loving this one. Sometimes a goofy, ABBA-themed musical is exactly what the doctor ordered.
