5. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Finding Dory Warcraft Central Intelligence Independence Day Resurgence
Universal Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 76% (6.7/10)

Box Office: Here's a film that, in retrospect, probably would've fared better on VOD or Netflix. Instead, the $20 million mockumentary fell hugely below expectations and hasn't even made half its budget back to date. Tragic.

Verdict: The Lonely Island once again proves their comic worth with a short, lightning-paced stab at contemporary pop music that's full of ridiculous cameos and the usual absurdity fans expect from the group.

With unexpectedly sharp production values and managing to wring a surprising amount of mileage out of its potentially repetitive premise, Popstar may become a cult classic in the coming years as audiences discover it for themselves on home video platforms. Either way, it didn't deserve such a grim fate at the box office.
