Ranking: Nicolas Cage's Straight-To-Video Movies From Worst To Best
2. Time To Kill (1989)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: N/A
Barely released at all outside of its native Italy, Time to Kill is based on Ennio Flaiano's acclaimed novel and co-adapted by the legendary screenwriter Furio Scarpelli (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly).
Cage plays an Italian soldier in Ethiopia trying to get medical attention for a toothache, and by movie's end he's committed rape, manslaughter and theft, not to mention contracted leprosy.
It's a wild ride and not without its unintentionally amusing moments (namely when Cage accidentally shoots dead the Ethiopian woman he just raped), but Cage gives a visceral performance even with most versions of the movie featuring his voice dubbed into Italian.
It's very grim and very weird, but miles ahead of most of the actor's STV offerings.
