RottenTomatoes Score: 93% (7.9/10) Box Office: Made for $35 million, Creed was projected to pull in exactly that figure for its first five days, but initial figures saw it over-perform significantly, ending up with $42.6 million for that period. In short, the film's already in the black, and with international releases still to come, it's going to be a solid success. Verdict: Creed is a nostalgic retread of the original 1976 Rocky, but one that succeeds thanks to Michael B. Jordan's fantastic lead performance, Ryan Coogler's excellent direction and an unexpectedly affecting supporting turn from Sylvester Stallone, who has been earning plenty of Oscar buzz for his role. It's predictable from start to finish, but it's familiar material executed extremely well, and for fans of the series, you'd need to be feeling pretty damn cynical not to come out of it smiling from ear to ear. Is a new franchise born? That box office sure points to yes.
