Ranking November 2015’s Movies From Worst To Best

12. The Night Before

RottenTomatoes Score: 65% (6.1/10) Box Office: This $25 million comedy was surely expected to light up the box office given the stars attached and novel tone counter to the usual trite Christmas movie. Still, it fell far below expectations in its opening weekend, and is still a few million away from recouping its budget. A major disappointment considering Rogen's bankability and the niche appeal of an R-rated holiday movie. Verdict: Though not as nuanced as Jonathan Levine's previous collaboration with Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (50/50), The Night Before has been praised as an irreverent holiday movie which manages to be an outrageous stoner romp and a touching Christmas film all at once. The performances are, of course, totally endearing, though it's Michael Shannon who frequently runs away with the pic as the hysterical Mr. Green. It's uneven from top to bottom, but much like 2011's A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas, it cements itself as a left-field holiday pic you'll probably be returning to year in and year out.
