13. Almost Christmas

Fantastic Beasts Arrival Bad Santa 2
Universal Pictures

RottenTomatoes Score: 49% (5.4/10)

Box Office: Made for a modest $17 million, the holiday comedy has already doubled its budget and will end up a minor success.

Verdict: You know what? This may be a totally undemanding film that slots exactly into every expectation you probably have of festive dramedies, but it also proves how a likable cast can elevate rather underwhelming material.

Danny Glover gets his most entertaining role in quite some time here as a bereaved husband reconnecting with his extended family for the holidays.

It's not big or clever, but the emotional beats actually work surprisingly well without feeling too forced, and though it's far too long at 111 minutes, it carries its run-time decently enough for the most part.

Not a classic of the genre you'll revisit again and again, but there's more here than you might anticipate.
