Box Office: Though it's only been released in around half of the world so far, the sequel to 2014's pleasantly surprising Paddington has already made $40 million, posting a higher opening weekend in the U.K. than the first film.

When it's all said and done, the film probably won't have much trouble soaring past its predecessor's $268 million final total, though with the film's staggered release pattern (it hits U.S. cinemas on January 12th), we won't know for sure for quite some time.

Verdict: One of the year's most pleasantly surprising films and an unexpected improvement on the original, Paddington 2 is a joyous, devilishly funny and surprisingly heartfelt film that doesn't put a single foot wrong.

A family film that's shamelessly goofy but also clever, visually elaborate and emotional without being overly sentimental, it's a genuine sequel for the ages and one that's sure to melt all but the most cynical hearts. An instant classic.
