Ranking November 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

1. Shoplifters

Shoplifters Hirokazu Koreeda
Gaga Corporation

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 99% (8.9/10)

Box Office: Hirokazu Kore-eda's Palme d'Or-winning drama has become the director's highest-grossing film to date thanks to a better-than-expected performance in both Japan and China, turning over $55 million to date. A major-minor success.

Verdict: Another achingly humanistic winner from Kore-eda, Shoplifters tells the morally ambiguous tale of an improvised Japanese family informally "adopting" a local girl who is neglected and abused by her parents.

A fascinating examination of the familial and economic turmoil present in modern-day Japan, Shoplifters is at once deeply sympathetic and grimly hilarious, finding flickers of hope in a fundamentally tragic story.
