14. Outlaw King

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 63% (6.2/10)

Box Office: Straight-to-Netflix.

Verdict: Though a good deal more divisive than director David Mackenzie's Best Picture-nominated Hell or High Water, Outlaw King is a mostly compelling historical epic, thanks to cracking performances from Chris Pine - whose Scottish accent is surprisingly on-point - Florence Pugh and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Barry Ackroyd's picturesque cinematography further evokes the period feel, and Mackenzie's refusal to shy away from the brutal violence makes this an uncommonly visceral piece of work.

It's a shame the film's accomplishments are somewhat overshadowed by its middling TIFF premiere - after which it was re-edited and, by most accounts, substantially improved - but them's the breaks.
