Ranking October 2015's Movies From Worst To Best

8. Suffragette

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 73% (6.5/10) Box Office: With a $14 million budget, the Oscar hopeful has grossed $11.6 million to date. Not great. but not disastrous either given the niche subject matter and low budget: home video could very well make this one money in the long run. The Verdict: Though probably too simplistic and bloated to get much Oscar love, Suffragette is a solid cliff notes summary of the UK's women's suffrage movement, aided by committed performances from Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter in particular. If there's one major disappointment, it's that Meryl Streep appears in the movie for literally about two minutes, which given how prominently she appears in the advertising seems pretty disingenuous. Still, it's hard for this to detract from the overall emotional thrall of the piece, which remains a relevant and empowering story in 2015. It might get a Golden Globe nod or two, but Oscars are looking much more distant.
