7. The Walk

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 85% (7.2/10) Box Office: Made on a modest $35 million given its technical intricacy and massively sold on its 3D presentation, The Walk has nevertheless made just $38.8 million to date, proving that audiences at large just aren't interested in paying ten bucks to watch a guy walk on a tight-rope. The Verdict: Though Joseph Gordon-Levitt is absurdly miscast and the whole thing feels a little too long, The Walk is a surprisingly engaging drama-cum-heist thriller, driven by Zemeckis' superb direction, effortlessly capturing the visceral feel of Philippe Petit's quest to walk across New York's Twin Towers. Yes, it's not quite the Oscar contender many were hoping for (except for possible tech nods, of course), but it looks fantastic, will serve as a solid companion piece to the Oscar-winning doc Man In Wire, and at its close also delivers a respectful but non-intrusive tribute to the Towers. For all of its failings, Zemeckis proves he's still got it.
