Ranking October 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
14. The Girl On The Train
RottenTomatoes Score: 44% (5.4/10)
Box Office: Though it didn't become the gigantic pop-culture phenomenon many were expecting given the success of the source material, it's nearly tripled its $45 million budget worldwide so far. An easy win.
Verdict: Emily Blunt's mesmerising performance deserves a much better film, because this adaptation of Paula Hawkins' 2015 hit novel basically reeks of a sappy Lifetime drama, complete with an obvious plot twist, sloppy direction and TV-grade cinematography.
It's clearly trying so, so hard to become the next Gone Girl, but without that movie's dark satirical element nor such mastery of filmmaking craft, it instead plays as overly self-serious, melodramatic and on-the-nose.
