Ranking October 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 79% (7.0/10)

Box Office: Direct-to-Netflix.

Verdict: Though it pales in comparison to Erik Poppe's single-take depiction of the 2011 Norway attacks, Utøya - July 22, Paul Greengrass' more conventional dramatisation still packs its own visceral punch.

Opting to focus less on the horrifying massacre itself and more on the recuperative efforts of the survivors and on shooter Anders Breivik himself (played by a brilliant Anders Danielsen Lie), Greengrass paints a journalistic and compassionate portrayal of the far-reaching effects of Breivik's actions.

It at times feels a little too by-the-numbers for its own good, and the decision to have the Norwegian cast members speak English is undeniably cynical, but as a broad, all-encompassing summary of the event and its fallout, it's solidly effective.
