Verdict: Timo Tjahjanto's (Headshot) latest action extravaganza may not offer up much in the character or story stakes, but its relentless barrage of gory action makes it one of the year's most intense and satisfying genre offerings.
With The Raid's Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais cast as hero and villain respectively, it goes without saying that the set-pieces have a kinetic brutality to them, while Tjahjanto ramps up the cartoonish bloodiness to far higher levels than The Raid franchise ever dared to go.
At 121 minutes it could definitely do with some trimming, but the action comes thick and fast, and you're rarely left waiting more than 10 minutes between jaw-droppingly savage fight scenes.
