6. Bridget Jones's Baby

Mark Wahlberg Deepwater Horizon Eva Green Miss Peregrine
Universal Studios

RottenTomatoes Score: 78% (6.3/10)

Box Office: The $35 million comedy sequel may have grossed below expectations in the U.S., but boosted by strong results in the U.K., it's already more-than-doubled its budget. It won't be a monstrous hit on par with it predecessors, but a solid success all the same.

Verdict: Even card-carrying Bridget Jones devotees will probably admit to being a little apprehensive about a sequel nobody really needed coming over a decade after the last movie.

As it turns out, however, despite being a little too long, the third time proves a charm, delivering a wealth of belly laughs, a nostalgic return to a beloved character and an emotionally resonant send-off.

The real MVP here is Emma Thompson, who runs away with every scene she's in as Bridget's doctor, and it's extra telling that she also co-wrote the movie's script.
