Ranking September 2017's Movies From Worst To Best

11. Victoria & Abdul

RottenTomatoes Score: 65% (6.2/10)

Box Office: Though budgetary information isn't available, the film's impressive $13.5 million gross, primarily from Australia and the UK, proves the continued staying power of Judi Dench and director Stephen Frears.

Verdict: Though it's arguably a little too gentle for its own good, Victoria and Abdul benefits hugely from Judi Dench's ferociously entertaining performance as Queen Victoria, and an unconventional, little-known story that's decidedly more intriguing than your typical Royal period piece.

Again, not the liveliest or most effervescent piece of cinema released this past month, but well worth it for Dench's fans, and it's even unexpectedly poignant in the final stretch. Maybe, just maybe, Dench might scoop an Oscar nomination for her sublime work here.
