Ranking September 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

3. Crazy Rich Asians

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93% (7.6/10)

Box Office: One of the year's most surprising box office success stories, the $30 million rom-com sailed past expectations and has grossed a stunning $215+ million to date worldwide. A sequel, unsurprisingly, is already in the works.

Verdict: A nourishing feast of a very different kind, Crazy Rich Asians may dabble in extremely generic rom-com tropes, but thanks to a thoroughly charming cast - none better than a stern Michelle Yeoh - eye-watering cinematography and insane production design, this is an infectiously enjoyable romp.

With no cut corners nor any whitewashing in sight, this feels like a genuinely authentic Asian movie through and through. And as much as it celebrates the culture, it also has something to say about divides between values traditional and progressive.

The two-hour run-time is rather on the indulgent side, but thanks to an epic array of food porn alongside perhaps the most visually elaborate movie wedding ever, the pacing keeps up an energetic clip for the most part.
