Ranking September 2018's Movies From Worst To Best
4. Climax
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90% (7.6/10)
Box Office: Gaspar Noe's (Irreversible, Enter the Void) latest offering was made for just $3 million, though to date it's barely crossed $200,000 worldwide. It's little surprising considering none of his films have ever turned a profit theatrically, but apparently they somehow do well enough on home video to keep him in the business.
Verdict: Noe's latest film is probably his most accessible to date, but make no mistake, this is still every bit the bats*** insane, boundary-pushing stylistic marvel you'd expect from the singular filmmaker.
Many movies attempt to replicate the feeling of a drug trip but few do it in a way that's both visually intoxicating and legitimately uncomfortable. Climax is a rare breed that does.
The tracking shots, the insane dance sequences and a spry Sofia Boutella leading the pack ensure this film about a dance troupe being poisoned with psychedelic drugs is a feast for the eyes and the soul. It won't be for everyone, but if you enjoyed Noe's prior work, you'll probably love it.
