Ranking Seth MacFarlane's Properties From Worst To Best

6. Cavalcade Of Cartoon Comedy

Since discovering that he could get some pretty meaty laughs out of cut-aways and flashbacks, MacFarlane has made something of a name for himself as the king of non sequitors. They're part and parcel of his brand, with increasingly lavish and ludicrous sequences (like the Peter vs Chicken mechanic in Family Guy) taking more and more time in later seasons.

Cavalcade Of Cartoon Comedy is what happens when you take that idea and strip out the frame-work, leaving only the cut-aways, which don't have the pleasantly jarring contrast with the main story. What the comedy loses for that lack of "context", it attempts to replace with being more outrageous, more grotesque and more MacFarlane.

Watched on YouTube - as originally released - it makes for a funny enough experience, but consumed as an anthology, it doesn't really work, and you end up feeling like you've been somewhat short-changed. Which makes accusations that it's no more than a series of rejected Family Guy skits feel uncomfortably close to home.
