6. Freddy Vs Jason

Ever since the monumental tease at the end of Jason Goes to Hell, fans had been patiently waiting to see Freddy and Jason duke it out for the slasher villain crown, and after a decade spent in production-hell, this film finally came to light.

It's just a shame it wasn't particularly good.

Not content to simply ape or pay tribute to either series that birthed it, Freddy vs. Jason is its own film - both tonally and stylistically. Its overly slick production and the noticeably higher budget do pave the way for some great set-pieces but there's very little else going on.

Robert Englund is on top form as always, but the absence of Kane Hodder as Jason does put a dampener on the experience. Couple that with the film having some highly forgettable and unlikeable characters and all you've really got to cling onto here are the numerous fight scenes between the titular slashers.

This should have been the VS movie to end all VS movies, but it failed to truly capture the spirit of either franchise. It's horrendously violent though, so gore-hounds will definitely feel their trousers tighten if this one gets played at your next Halloween get together.
