Ranking: The Biggest Protagonists From 2016's Summer Blockbusters
2. Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) - Finding Dory
The Role: The adorable regal blue tang fish who, as she competes against her own short-term memory loss, seeks to track down her long-lost parents (Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton).
This one's just an easy sell from the outset: practically everyone loves Finding Nemo and by extension Dory, and the prospect of a sequel that actually moves her character on in a meaningful way is too delightful to resist.
The real masterstroke here is that Pixar manage to make light of Dory's condition while also making her a sympathetic character. Pixar are masters of tone and balance it perfectly here: you want Dory to succeed, and when she does, it's a fantastically earned, tear-filled moment.
What could've been a lazy reprise of an iconic character in fact takes her to the next level, so props to all involved.
