Ranking: The Biggest Protagonists From 2016's Summer Blockbusters

1. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) - Captain America: Civil War

The Role: Following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tony Stark agrees to sign the Superhero Registration Act, bringing him to blows with a resistant Captain America.

Robert Downey Jr. kills it every time he assumes the role of Iron Man, and Civil War saw him play a more tortured and emotional Tony Stark than ever before.

With the near-death of Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and the ultimate revelation of his parents' death, the character has never had more turmoil to process, and Downey absolutely delivered with by far the best performance from any blockbuster movie this summer.

The Russo Brothers did a fantastic job making Stark's motives believable and far away from being the black-and-white "villain" many expected, especially compared to Cap's more noble and righteous motives.

Which movie protagonists did you love from this past summer? Who did you hate? Shout them out in the comments!
