Ranking: The Biggest Protagonists From 2016's Summer Blockbusters

The Role: The dopey but loveable ground sloth, the headstrong and responsible woolly mammoth and the bada**, cagey saber tooth tiger respectively, who must team up once again to stop an impending catastrophic event.

Only slightly less sleep-inducing than Liam Hemsworth's space hunk is the three colourful, once-loveable protagonists of the Ice Age franchise...and as the series has slid into increasing irrelevance, unfortunately so too have this trio.

It's clear as day from first minute to last that Leguizamo, Romano and Leary are phoning in their performances at this point, and frankly with a script so utterly pedestrian, who wouldn't?

The narrative doesn't give them much meaningful to do or move the characters on in any palpable way, so they're left treading water to give parents something to babysit their kids with. Terrible.
