Ranking: The Biggest Protagonists From 2016's Summer Blockbusters
16. Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska) - Alice Through The Looking Glass
The Role: When the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) falls deathly ill, it's up to our intrepid heroine to travel through time and save the Hatter before it's too late.
This one is especially disappointing for two reasons: firstly, Mia Wasikowska makes for a fantastic Alice even as these movies continue to disappoint, and there was clearly a ton of potential to make Through the Looking Glass a deeply feminist text that saw the title character triumphing against not just time, but also the patriarchy.
As it stands, Wasikowska is given very little to work with and largely takes a backseat to both the splendid visual effects and more boisterous performers surrounding her. She's a shoulder-shrug of a character here, almost an afterthought in her own movie, though the promise is evident enough that she's not a total write-off.
