Ranking Every Major MCU Villain From Worst To Best
5. Ultron (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
With too many threats in the world for the Avengers to handle, Tony Stark uses alien technology to create a defense network helmed by an artificial intelligence. As Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk could have told him, that turns out to be a bad idea. The self-aware program - Ultron - realizes that the true threat facing the world isn't simply the nebulous concept of "evil" - it's humanity as a whole and The Avengers in particular.
Ultron is the most fearsome villain the MCU has ever seen - he's a program capable of commanding machines, upgrading himself, and kicking the crap out of the Avengers. And most terrifying of all? He's disturbingly human. He brings Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch into his fold, acting as a father figure to the twins and promising them a better world... he just doesn't tell them that it's a world without people.
James Spader portrayed Ultron and brought that confusing humanity to the villain. His soft voice was not unlike Billy Crudup's as Doctor Manhattan in Watchmen, but in this instance, a humanizing approach actually strengthened the character. Though Avengers: Age of Ultron had its weaknesses, Ultron himself wasn't one of them. Hopefully, like in the comics, Ultron will prove impossible to destroy and come back for another battle.
