Ranking The Next 10 Superhero Films From Least Anticipated To Most

9. Hellboy

Avengers Endgame
Lionsgate

The 2019 reboot of the property comes out in just a few short months, yet there has been practically no marketing for it. Aside from a few promotional images sprinkled over the course of the last few months, this film is in desperate need of an official trailer to kickstart some buzz.

Because this film is fighting an uphill battle. Guillermo del Toro wrote and directed the first two cinematic iterations of the character back in the mid-00s with Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. While those films may not have blown up the box office, they were beloved by a great many, especially the second film which remains revered as one of the greatest comic book films of all time by many. Del Toro continuously and openly expressed interest in returning to finish the trilogy with Ron Pearlman back as the big red guy himself, but Lionsgate opted to simply reboot the franchise instead.

In the interim between then and now, Guillermo became an Academy Award-winner for The Shape of Water and suddenly, Lionsgate felt like real idiots. Now, this new Hellboy film has to really be something special. It does have a great director and star, in the form of Neil Marshall and David Harbour, but the anticipation is so low that you'd be hard-pressed to even find a dozen mainstream audience members who are aware there's another Hellboy movie coming out next year.
