Razzies 2017: 8 Winners That Make No Sense
1. Worst Director - Dinesh D'Souza (Hillary's America: The Secret History Of The Democratic Party)
Why It Makes No Sense: Bear with this one. Yes, Hillary's America is a horrendous, offensive movie, but it's actually not the worst-directed film of the year, even if its Worst Picture Razzie win feels thoroughly deserved.
For one, some of the visuals are actually pretty decent, and though thoroughly misguided, Dinesh D'Souza at least has a consistent tone and directorial vision throughout that never waves.
He is by no means a good director, but he's definitely not the Worst Director.
Who Should've "Won": Alex Proyas for Gods of Egypt. His CGI-assaulted mess of an adventure epic is tonally jarring from beginning to end and wholly plays out like a director who has lost complete control of his production.
And let's face it, screwing up a $140 million movie is much more embarrassing than a $5 million one, especially as D'Souza's movie actually made more than double its budget back at the box office, scarily enough.
Proyas has at least proven himself a talented director in the past through his work on The Crow and Dark City in particular, so he could always end up a Razzie Redeemer some time in the future.
