Ready Player One: 135 Easter Eggs & References Explained

14. Overwatch - Tracer

Ready Player One Overwatch
Warner Bros.

As revealed in the trailers before the film's release, Overwatch character Tracer appears as one of the avatars responding to Z's call to arms for the final battle of the movie. She's pretty hard to miss given how much her look stands out.

13. Super Mario 64

When Wade's beaten Halliday’s tasks, the creator's final words to him are “thank you for playing my game”, in homage to Super Mario 64 in which Mario himself says, “Thank you a-so much for playing my game” at the end of the closing credits.

12. Amiga 2600

The Atari 2600 system becomes a key part of the film's finale as Halliday was a big fan of playing it as a child. He then designs the final task around the system's most famous Easter Egg in Adventure.

But that's not the only game mentioned - we also get specific mentions of Centipede, Pitfall, Swordquest and Motorcross and there's a whole board of game titles that IOI are working through, including Isengard as one stand-out.

11. Street Fighter

Warner Bros.

There are a number of Street Fighter references throughout the film. First Ryu is a racer in the first task and then appears again as a projection on the Street Fighter booth in the virtual marketplace.

Blanka also appears in the Distracted Globe, first at the bar and then dancing with a partner. And both Sagat and Chun-Li are part of the big battle at the end of the movie.

And finally, Z uses a hadouken in the final battle against Nolan Sorrento.

10. Tomb Raider

Lara Croft appears a couple of times in the film, first as one of the racers in the first task and then at the bar in the Distracted Globe as Parzival looks for Art3mis. She also turns up in the final battle alongside Chun-Li and Tracer.
