When Parzival and Aech are waiting to start the race for the first task, Aech makes a joke about the stakes being higher than in Mario Kart.
18. Borderlands
As Z looks to spend his winnings from the first task in The OASIS' virtual marketplace, a Borderlands shop can be seen in the background. Sadly, he doesn't choose anything from the game.

When Nolan is attempting to get Wade to work for IOI, he claims that he loves playing Robotron -Ataris' multidirectional-shooter from 1982.

At one point in the final battle, Art3mis wields one of the heavy rifles - fitted with a chainsaw bayonet - that the COG soldiers use in Gears Of War.

Halliday is clearly a big fan of retro gaming, as he wears an Asteroids T-shirt at one point and a Space Invaders one at another point. He also has a Space Invaders table arcade machine in his apartment at the end of the film.
